A Job
A Myth
Quote from CNN
A job provides financial stability, a rising income, and most importantly, an opportunity to pursue the American dream,” New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, the third highest-ranking Republican in the House, said in a call with reporters this week.

I gotta ask - what planet does MS Stefanik come from?
Note that for Ms Stefanik - the most important thing is that a job gives you a chance at the American Dream (whatever that is) - a chance that is - it's always a gamble that could collapse at any moment.
The big lie at the center of Ms Stefanik's assertion is that there are enough jobs available for all who need them.
I've had jobs. I appreciated the financial stability until the economy took a downturn and the boss would lay me off. Trying to find work in an economic downturn is no fun. Can't pay rent? The Stefaniks of the world look down their noses: What's the matter with you?
We live in a complex society with many regulations. Taking a job means accepting another layer of regulation from the employer. Have you ever heard that employers can be capricious and hard to get along with?
I present regular philosophy discussions in a virtual reality called Second Life.
I set a topic and people come as avatars and sit around a virtual table to discuss it.
Each week I write a short essay to set the topic.
I show a selection of them here.
